Charlie is also a contributor to Learned Publishing, which publishes a journal of research and professional publishing in collaboration with the Society for Scholarly Publishing.

 

In the interview, I talked about the necessity of Kudos, useful features for Asian beginners and professional researchers such as Korea, Japan, and China. We have also added the features of Kudos and the contributions he has made to academia around the world. Ingoo Academy has been able to understand the positive changes in Kudos’ influence and academia through his dialogue with Charlie.

The first part of this interview began with Kudos’ intended and actual improvements.

 

Tony : On what occasion was Kudos designed?

CHARLIE : I started to bring together various ideas. Co-founders and I have had a lot of problems while working in academia. The number of published papers is growing, which means that your paper will have fewer opportunities to read. We needed a new way to manage the growing number of papers efficiently.

It is also meaningful to digitize various data. As the thesis was registered online, a number of different and significant figures and data emerged as well as the number of downloads. The number of social media dissemination, government policy reflectance, and whether or not to register for Wikipedia.

We wanted to create a basis for finding the exact papers you want by combining and utilizing the changes of the times. If a dissertation is searched by a person who needs it and the number of citations increases, the author will be able to get reputation and research funding. As competition for research funding became more intense, it was necessary to play a role as a tool to show objective figures. It can be said that it is a tool that enhances the researcher’s career and achievement that aims to support the research fund .

 

Tony : Is this a free service? Please also explain the merits.

Charlie : It’s free and easy to use because it’s made with an intuitive interface. As a marketing / development specialist, I wanted to create a system that easily integrated the researchers’ wishes into one place, and increased the utilization of the thesis, and it was actually implemented. After two years of data collection, Kudos showed a 23% increase in downloads, and many other figures have risen. The papers appear in the search and others have to read, so they can go in the next order, such as quotes or online discussions. Finding good researchers and researchers is the key to this service.

 

Tony : What do you need to know?

CHARLIE : Five thousand of the major journals contributed by many researchers are made up of the CrossRef DOI system, which is easy to open. After opening an account , you can reach more readers by promoting your paper.

 

Tony : What’s different about similar systems?

CHARLIE : First, average downloads are up 23%. Let’s look at a geologist’s case. It was the second paper that passed the examination since I got my doctoral degree. The contents of this paper are neat, simple, non-majors can be easily understood, registered in Kudos, and left a few posts on Twitter. Surprisingly, more than a thousand read this article. I have been told that I am glad to be read by a lot of people even though I am a researcher of a new researcher who has not had such a career. The fact that many people read my paper is a great joy and a great spiritual reward.

Another example is the story of Kudos who is actively using the link function. In the existing system, it is not easy to write this fact in the original text even if others quoted it after publication. The researcher found a way to effectively mark it, and was able to find someone who actually uses his data in ways that were not previously available. Since then, I have uploaded more articles and information to Kudos, and I have had many opportunities for exchange and cooperation.

So many users left a positive review.

 

Tony : I think it will be of great help to the researcher. How can universities, journals, publishers, and support organizations use Kudos?

CHARLIE : The function you are currently envisioning is a system that encourages researchers to write additional explanations, which will increase the views of each institution and the public. Registrants will be able to promote their achievements with objective numbers. Researchers and institutions can also collaborate in Kudos to effectively promote research results.

토니: 그렇다면, 반대로 쿠도스는 대상 고객을 어떻게 찾고 있습니까? 특별한 홍보, 마케팅 방안이 있는지요?

찰리: 쿠도스는 글로벌 서비스입니다. 이용자 수는 10만 명이 넘었고, 인도 8%, 중국 5%를 포함한 대략적인 아시아 유저 비율이 23%에 달합니다. 훌륭한 논문은 많은 독자에게 읽혀야 합니다. 현재 시스템은 출판사와의 협력에 기반한 바가 큽니다. 저널에게 쿠도스 서비스 홍보 자료를 보냈고, 저널이 게재 확정 시점에 각 연구자에게 쿠도스에 대해 알리고, 간략한 설명을 포함한 등록을 권하는 방식입니다. 물론, 기 출판 논문 저자에게 직접 연락하기도 하며, 이를 더욱 늘릴 계획입니다. 쿠도스 시스템의 효과성이 알려졌고, 인지도가 높아졌기 때문에 가능해졌습니다.
